Abstract
the common characteristics of the cleft lip and palate patients are lack of tissue, deviated muscle function, dental arch collapse, malaligned teeth and midface hypoplasia. Until now the results of orthodontic treatment in Korea successful. Most
of
the
problems are related to the improper early management of the patients-lack of cooperation among the related specialists, inadequate timing and method of surgical intervention. So the orthodontist should try not only to improve the results by
traditional
orthodontic approach but also to prevent the side effects of surgery. For this infant maxillary orthopedics and primary osteoplasty was introduced. The orthodontist should play the role as a consultant and modelator for the total care of the
cleft
lip
and plate patients.
